PristupačnostThe 6th Dubrovnik Atrocity Prevention School (DAPS) course on atrocity crimes prevention and human rights will take place from 18 to 23 May 2025 at the Inter-University Center in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The course targets graduate students with a strong academic record and a documented interest in the field of atrocity prevention and R2P. Graduate (last year) students, PhD students or young faculty members, age 35 or below, may be eligible for an IUC scholarship.
The prevention of atrocity crimes (genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity), is one of the great challenges of our times. This course offers a unique opportunity to study atrocity prevention and examine the ways in which prevention is practiced in the field alongside some of the world’s leading practitioners and scholars. It examines the causes of atrocity crimes, and how they escalate from patterns of human rights violations, the challenge and practices of early warning and the practical dilemmas associated with translating early warning into early preventive action.
Applications for participation must be submitted via the IUC website no later than 17 March 2025. Availability is limited, so the earlier you apply, the better your chances. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Do not transfer your course fee nor book your travels until your application has been accepted and you have received a confirmation from the course director.
In the registration system you have the option to choose between “regular participation” (attendance in Dubrovnik) and “online participation” (via zoom, for those based outside Europe). The course fee is EUR 100 for regular participation and EUR 75 for online participation.
