Objectives and results of the action
The proposed JM teaching module ESI – European Secular Identities continues with research on European politics that students have at the Faculty of political Sciences at the University of Zagreb, especially the subjects: Political system of the EU, Political theory of European Integration and Politics and religion (BA-level). Centre for European Studies of the Faculty has developed 6 courses in European Integration Studies, which are freely open for all students from the University of Zagreb and other Universities. The objective of this module are innovative upgrades to existing European Studies in a specific area of research on the main ideas, principles and historical background of European Integration.
The module aims to offer students and other public the specific academic issues that arise from a) philosophical and theological view on separation of church and state, b) creation of secular state, c) development of French policy of church-state relation, especially in the form of the constitutional norm of laicite, d) philosophical and sociological view on identity, identities and communitarian policy, e) problems with the policy of multiculturalism and different ideas on egalitarian policies, f) role of the European secular organisation in the creation of European Integration, g) questioning on atheistic or agnostic way on identity and its political forms, h) searching for European identity as the form of various religious, atheistic, agnostic, secular, philosophical identities and its historical roots and i) various contemporary problems of European integration connected with the problems on national and supranational level.
