DESCRIPTION:

The course thoroughly explores the EU political system and the complex structure and dynamics of governance within the Union, emphasising the interaction between key EU institutions and decision-making processes. Starting from the historical development of the EU as a political entity sui generis, the course provides insights into theoretical frameworks that explain its political evolution and the concept of multi-level governance that reflects the division of competences between EU institutions and member states. The role and function of each of the EU institutions are examined in detail, as well as the influence of interest groups, citizens and public opinion on political processes in the Union. Through the integration of case studies, topical debates, independent practical projects and fieldwork, the course equips students with an in-depth understanding and analysis of the EU political system and provides them with solid preparation for careers in European affairs.
