DESCRIPTION:
The course combines theoretical and practical knowledge of Diplomacy as a sub-discipline of International Relations. It gives students the possibility to comprehend, analyse and applicate contemporary methods and techniques of diplomatic practice. By combining practical and theoretical classes, students are given the opportunity to follow the evolution of Diplomacy, its techniques and modes, as well as to critically analyse modalities of using Diplomacy in conflict prevention and conflict resolution. In practical classes students apply theoretical knowledge in resolving problems from the field of Diplomatic and Consular law, by simulating bilateral and multilateral negotiations, as well as by working on the project of cultural promotion ("Cultural Diplomacy") in cooperation with the embassies in Croatia. During the course students are also given the opportunity to visit at least one foreign embassy with the aim of understanding its organization, challenges, roles as well as functions of diplomatic personnel. Regularly people from diplomatic practice hold lectures at the course, while two times a month the movie projection "Diplomacy on Friday" is being organized with the aim to discuss some of the topics from the history of Diplomacy, as well as from contemporary International Relations.
