DESCRIPTION:

The aim of this course is the study of international security in contemporary world. With the disappearance of the global bipolar structure of international relations, which was dominantly built upon the balance of force, power and fear, the new processes have appeared in which, alongside with states, some new entities have emerged, which significantly affect increasingly globalized international security. There are new political interests and new antagonisms, which cause new forms of articulation of political relations between states as well as political processes and relations within the states. The emergence of new actors on trans-national and sub-national level put forward some new challenges on the international security agenda. The instability, terrorism, conflicts and military threats are coming back into the focus of international security, although in a completely new way, which requires a new understanding and relation towards these categories. All of this requires the appropriate response of states and institutions of the international community to the threats and the use of force at the beginning of the 21st century.
