|All teaching activities in the course will be held on English. This level includes courses with multiple groups (i.e., all teaching will be held strictly in Croatian for Croatian groups, and strictly in English for English groups).|
The objectives of this course are to facilitate students linguistic progress and to enhance their overall linguistic competence as independent users of English according to the Common European Framework for Languages (CEF), in terms of both spoken and written production, regardless of the individual level the student has reached upon completion of secondary education. The foregoing is achieved by presenting thematic content in the form of scientific and theoretical discipline-specific texts, as well as by using diverse authentic and current events-based materials from different (written and oral) media, didactically adjusted with a view to facilitating the development of the four basic language skills (reading, listening, writing and speaking) and to acquiring and expanding specific professional vocabulary and morphosyntactic structures pertinent to English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in the field of political science. By developing the receptive language skills, namely reading and listening, students are expected to acquire instruments for attending classes held in English, for using professional literature and for understanding oral discourse in the field of political science. Furthermore, certain requirements laid down on students, such as delivering oral presentations, participation in class discussions and writing short essay answers, are supposed to lead to an experiential development of learners productive language skills, i.e. speaking and writing, with an eye to providing them with the foundations for further active participation in classes held in the English language throughout their university studies.
